What is slow-working?

Slow-working is a co-working session that centers our collective wellbeing, creativity, & comfort.

The idea of “slow-working” came to me when I was grappling with what it would mean to create content focused on “productivity.” I am neurodivergent, recovering from burnout, and grieving: continuing to unlearn harmful “productivity” practices and perfectionism is important to me.

How do slow-working streams work?

During slow-working streams, I will generally follow a “pomodoro” style working method, with 30 minutes of quiet working & 10 minute breaks. During working sessions I’ll be mostly silent and focused, sometimes doing work tasks, sometimes taking care of myself. During breaks, I will catch up with chat & host conversations on creativity, burnout, mindfulness, my work, & more.

The goal is not to be perfectly productive. It is to work in a way that makes us feel good, to practice being present, & to carve out space for softness, creativity, community, & joy.

How can I participate?

Short answer: there is no wrong way to participate in our slow-working streams. You can join to spend time with the community, to relax and listen to peaceful music, to listen to our conversations during breaks, to practice being present, to study, to work, to do chores - I think you get the idea!

If you want to contribute to the community task list on screen, you just need to use the commands I’ve listed in Bot commands. If you need help, ask a mod!

What counts as a task?

Anything. Just keep it PG-13 & in line with our community rules & values.
